About SheetTidy

Why it exists

Most spreadsheet trouble is not complicated, just tedious: duplicate rows, stray spaces, dates that turn into numbers, a CSV that opens in one column, a report with its header in row 4. Excel can fix all of these, but usually through a chain of menus, helper columns and formulas that you have to remember and repeat for every file.

Online converters are quicker, but most of them ask you to upload the file to their server. For customer lists, payroll exports or bank statements, that is a real cost. SheetTidy does the same jobs without the upload.

How it works

Each tool runs entirely in your browser. When you choose a file, it is read and processed on your own device and the result is saved straight back to it, so your data stays with you. You can see a preview of every change before you download, and the original file is never modified. Theprivacy page explains this in more detail.

The tools understand the files people actually work with: workbooks from Excel and other spreadsheet apps (XLSX, XLSM, XLS, ODS), CSV and TSV files in any common encoding and separator, and JSON. Text in any language is handled correctly, including Hindi, Gujarati and other scripts, and Indian number formats such as 1,00,000.

What you can do

There are 24 free tools, grouped into:

• Excel data cleaning tools: Remove duplicates, stray spaces, blank rows and unwanted characters.
• Tools to fix messy Excel files: Repair shifted columns, broken dates, numbers stored as text and more.
• Merge, split and compare Excel files: Combine files, split sheets, compare versions and join tables.
• Convert Excel and CSV files: Switch between CSV, XLSX, XLS and JSON without losing data.

Not sure where to start? Drop your file into the "Fix my Excel file" check on the homepage: it lists the problems it finds and points you to the tool for each one. Theguides explain the most common problems and how to fix them in Excel too.

Principles

• Private by design. Files are processed on your device and never uploaded.
• Free to use. No accounts, and no limits on how often you use a tool.
• Nothing changes silently. Every tool says exactly what it did, highlights the changes and leaves anything it is unsure about for you to decide.
• Accessible. Every tool is built to work with a keyboard and screen readers, in light and dark mode, on phones and desktops.
