Combine files, split sheets, compare versions and join tables.

Switch between CSV, XLSX, XLS and JSON without losing data.

How it works

  1. 1

    Open your file

Drop in an Excel or CSV file. Your browser reads it on your own device; nothing is uploaded.

  2. 2

Choose a fix and preview it

Pick what to clean. Every change is highlighted in a preview before you download anything.

  3. 3

    Download the clean file

Save the result as XLSX or CSV, with a plain-language report of exactly what changed.

Your spreadsheet never leaves your device

  • Your file is opened and processed by your own browser, never sent to a server.
  • Nothing is stored: close the tab and the data is gone.
  • No account, no sign-up and no email address needed.

Frequently asked questions

Is SheetTidy really free?

Yes. Every tool is free to use with no account, no watermark and no limit on how many files you clean. The only limit is the memory of your own device.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Once the page has loaded, your file is read and processed by JavaScript running in your browser tab. It is never sent to a server, stored or logged, which is why SheetTidy is safe to use with customer lists, payroll and bank exports.

Which file types can I open?

Excel workbooks (.xlsx, .xlsm and the older .xls), OpenDocument spreadsheets (.ods), and CSV or TSV text files. Macros in .xlsm files are never run. Results download as .xlsx or as UTF-8 CSV.

What does the file check on this page look for?

Duplicate rows, extra or invisible spaces, blank rows and empty columns, a header that is not in row 1, merged cells, rows shifted into the wrong columns, repeated headers and total rows inside the data, dates or numbers stored as text, and names in inconsistent capitals. Each problem links to the tool that fixes it.

How large a file can I clean?

Files up to 200 MB can be opened. Most files of 100,000 rows are cleaned in a few seconds on a typical laptop; very large Excel workbooks take longer to read and write than CSV files.

Will my formatting and formulas be kept?

Your data is kept exactly: text, numbers, dates and leading zeros. Formatting such as colours, fonts and column widths is not carried over, and formulas are saved as their calculated values. Keep your original file if you need those.
